At What Point Do Fractionals Become A Good Investment?
I like the idea of picking up fractionals when I don't have enough dough on me for a full ounce. My dealer gives me what seems to be a great deal on these. You tell me... My only guage is APMEX ... and he blows the doors off their prices for these gold coins.
Today I got 6 pandas, each 1/20 oz ranging from year 1987 to 2003 1 Maple Leaf 1997, 1/20 oz 1 Austrailian Lunar, year 2000 Dragon 1/20 oz Each of these were $38 a piece. I wanted the small coins for purchases if and when TSHTF, and for times when I cannot afford an oz ... and these premiums seem very minimal. What do you think? :wazzup_sg |

not a bad idea now...I was thinking of getting some of the british soveriegns roughly a 1/4 oz IIRC. An ounce is too expensive for my budget these days.:character
And if gold ever goes really high it will be easier to get cash for it than a whole ounce. |

Fractionals IMO are always a good investment in that they are an avenue of diversification.

Fractionals are GREAT to flog off on ebay at amazing premiums.
But 5g is as low as I would go. the 1g and 2.5g bars are just ridiculous, I wouldnt even give a young family member (eg 2yr old) those as a bday present. |

Best to give silver bars or rounds for smaller gifts. They feel more substantial and are not choking hazards. |

I like the mini gold coins too. I usually lurk on ebay waiting for an unnoticed gold coin to slip past buyers and have managed to pick up several 1/20th an ounce under $30 (plus shipping which I take into account) and half of them I managed to snag at under $25 per piece. I've seen some of those 1gram bars that aren't even fun to look at go for more then that sometimes. I wish I could afford larger gold coins but until I hit "big money" can't afford any larger pieces. If SHTF, perhapes the smaller coins might be easier to barter with then larger coins for goods and services... until then I'll just enjoy saving them up:)

I buy mostly 1/10 coins and the occasional 1/20, too. I can't usually afford the larger ones. For SHTF purposes, I think the smaller coins would be ideal.

I watch for good prices on fractionals and have picked some up pretty close to the premiums you'd pay on 1oz coins. But mostly I buy soveriegns, as they can be found at low premiums pretty much all the time and are very liquid.

Well...I am missing some Lunar 1/20 fractionals to complete the set to date...I am missing 4 years of them....I think I will look to find them to complete my sets.
